Uduaghan Promises A New Beginning
His regime may not be new but Delta State governor Emmanuiel Uduaghan at his swearing in yesterday said he will do things in a new way to get Deltans to see more of the dividends of democravy. He told the large crowd of people who witnessed his swearing in that “We are going to do things differently in order to achieve our common objectives. “This is the time for action. And to all members of my administration, this is time for action.“ I want to also let you know that I will listen more, do more and work more with you in making Delta a better place as we aggressively pursue the delivery of our campaign promises.” He also spoke of more transparency in the government business, stating that “we will run a corruption free government. No more room for frivolous spending. I will listen more and do more to make Delta a better place.”
An elated Dr. Uduaghan said he has heard ‘loud and clear’ the message of Deltans and will honour the rural and riverine people who put their trust in him and move to build greater bond among all Deltans irrespective of tribe. He said in his speech: “Over the last two months, as I consulted far and wide on the rerun election, we spent time assessing and understanding the issue and the challenges that confront our people, we heard your concerns loud and clear and we will do more to earn your trust. In the coming days we are going to focus on building trust between the government and the governed and deepening reconciliation between our various ethnic nationalities. “Our common goal is to rebuild our state, devoid of ethnicity, strife and rancour. Today, we must stand together, to reunite our people. I must say that I bear no ill feelings whatsoever, however against my opponents or those who voted against me, from now on we must return with greater vigour to the people’s work founded on our three point agenda”.
Among those who witnessed the ceremony at The Cenotaph, Asaba was Anambra State governor Peter Obi. The event took place at about 5.pm after the governor returned from INEC office Abuja where he was presented with the Certificate of Return by the chairman Professor Attahiru Jega.
